Content locker

Blur and disable the page behind a popup until the visitor submits its form or answers its question.

Lock the Page Behind turns a popup into a gate. The page behind it is blurred and cannot be used until the visitor completes the popup. It is available for the Form type and, with Pro, for Yes / No Question.

Typical uses: an email gate before an article or a download, a required answer before entering a page.

Switch it on#

  1. Edit a popup of the Form type.
  2. On the Popup Content tab switch on Lock the Page Behind.
  3. Click Save.

What changes while locked#

  • The page behind the popup is blurred and does not react to clicks or the keyboard.
  • The popup's close button is hidden.
  • Clicking outside the popup and pressing Escape do nothing.

What unlocks the page#

  • A successful form submission.
  • A click on one of the popup's own action buttons (the Yes or No button of a Yes / No popup).
  • The popup closing for any other reason, so the page can never stay blurred with nothing on top of it.

After unlocking, the popup's After Submitting setting runs as usual: show a follow-up message, close, or redirect.

Use it with care#

Heads up

A locked popup also locks out visitors who will not or cannot comply. Search engines and people in a hurry may leave instead. Lock only the pages where the exchange is clearly worth it, and limit the popup to those pages with Page targeting.

A few practical points:

  • Frequency still applies. Set Frequency Mode so that someone who completed the form is not asked again on every page.
  • Offer something. A gate that explains what the visitor gets (the guide, the discount, the rest of the article) converts far better than a bare form.
  • Logged-in users see the gate too, unless you exclude them with a Pro audience rule.
